Construction has officially started on the first phase of Malta’s national bicycle network — a long-awaited step toward safer, more accessible infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians alike. 
This initial phase of the €35 million C-SAM project will connect Msida, Pietà, Blata l-Bajda, Valletta, and the Valletta Waterfront, forming a key artery in the country’s future active mobility network.
Originally announced in 2023, the project focuses on the Grand Harbour area and after a delayed first tender, a new one was successfully issued and awarded last summer.
We’ll be following developments closely and will continue advocating for a broader, integrated cycling network across the islands.
